Visitor Visa Australia Processing Time

How long does it take to get an Australian tourist visa? Well, that depends which visitor visa you are applying for!

You can read about which visitor visa you are eligible for here.

At time of writing we are still massively impacted by COVID (August 2021), currently the Australian tourist visa processing times are:

  • eVisitor (Subclass 651) – 11 – 45 days
  • Electronic Travel Authority (Subclass 601) – pre-COVID was under a day but the processing times are now not listed.
  • Visitor Visa (Subclass 600):
    • Tourist stream – 6 – 9  months
    • Sponsored Family Stream – 4- 10 months
    • Business visitor stream – 7 – 22 days

Sponsored Family Visitor Visa Processing Time (Subclass 600)

The sponsored family stream can take quite a bit of time to process so it’s best to get your application in well in advance.

If you are applying to attend a special event, such as a family wedding, make sure you include a copy of the invitation with your application.

Sponsored family visitor visas take longer to process as they are seen as ‘higher-risk’ for the Department – basically the Australian government has to be confident you won’t overstay if they grant you a visa.
